TMJ Symptom Guide

BEVERLY HILLS & SHERMAN OAKS

Do you think you may have TMJ? Let us point you in the right direction.

Start With Your Symptoms

Jaw pain is the obvious one. The harder cases are the ones that don’t look like TMJ at first.

You may be dealing with ringing in the ears, headaches, dizziness, neck tension, poor sleep, chipped teeth, or a bite that’s never felt quite right. Most people don’t connect those symptoms to the jaw, the bite, or the airway. That’s why so many patients spend years looking in the wrong place.

At our Sherman Oaks office, Dr. Eddie Siman and our team look at the full picture. That includes the jaw joints, the bite, muscle strain, and the airway, so we can better understand what may actually be behind the symptoms affecting your day-to-day life.

Which Symptoms Sound Like You?

If you have jaw pain, clicking, popping, or trouble opening your mouth

These are some of the most common signs of TMJ dysfunction. You may notice pain when chewing, a jaw that shifts, or an aching, stuck feeling that makes eating, yawning, or even opening wide feel uncomfortable.

What we recommend: It’s worth scheduling an evaluation to see whether the joint, bite, or surrounding muscles are being strained every day.

Next step: Request a Consultation

If you have headaches, migraines, facial pressure, or pain behind the eyes

Many people have been told they “just get headaches.” Sometimes that’s not the full story. Clenching, bite imbalance, and joint strain can create constant tension through the jaw, temples, face, and neck.

What we recommend: Schedule a call if your headaches keep returning and you still do not have a clear reason why.

Next step: Schedule a Call

If you have ringing in the ears, ear fullness, dizziness, or vertigo

This is where TMJ gets missed all the time. You may have seen an ENT and been told everything looks normal. That happens. The problem can still be mechanical, especially when ear symptoms show up with jaw tension, headaches, or clenching.

What we recommend: Request an evaluation if these symptoms keep happening and no one has been able to connect the full pattern.

Next step: Request a Consultation

If you wake up tired, snore, grind your teeth, or can’t tolerate CPAP

Sleep issues and jaw issues often overlap. If the airway is being blocked during sleep, the body compensates. That can show up as snoring, clenching, broken sleep, brain fog, or waking up already exhausted.

What we recommend: Schedule a call if you have been told you snore, suspect sleep apnea, or have struggled to tolerate CPAP.

Next step: Schedule a Call

If you have neck pain, shoulder tension, or constant tightness through the face

When the bite is off, the body often starts compensating. The jaw, face, neck, and shoulders can all begin holding tension that keeps returning no matter how often you try to release it.

What we recommend: It may be time for an evaluation if the tension keeps coming back, especially after massage, chiropractic care, or physical therapy.

Next step: Request a Consultation

If you have chipped teeth, worn enamel, or dental work that keeps breaking

This can be a bite problem just as much as a dental problem. If the teeth are taking uneven force, veneers, crowns, and even implants can wear down or fail sooner than they should.

What we recommend: Schedule a consultation if your dental work keeps breaking or your bite has never felt stable or comfortable.

Next step: Book a Consultation

If you’ve already seen other doctors and still don’t have answers

Many of our patients come to us after seeing ENTs, neurologists, chiropractors, pain specialists, or general dentists without getting a clear explanation for why the symptoms keep returning or spreading.

What we recommend: Reach out if you feel like your symptoms have been dismissed, split up, or never fully explained.

You don’t have to sort this out on your own before reaching out.
