What is sleep apnea?
Apnea is the sudden stoppage of respiratory airflow, which can lead to a lack of blood getting transported to the brain and no oxygen to fill the lungs. Sleep apnea, therefore, occurs when you’re asleep and unconscious, unable to respond to the blockage in your throat. The body does tend to wake up if there is an apneic event, though.
When you experience jaw clicking or popping, it can be a painful or uncomfortable sensation. This common phenomenon is caused by a misalignment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)- which are the joints that connect the jaw to the rest of the skull. This is what helps your jaw attain a large range of movement, allowing you to chew, eat, sing, yawn- really anything that has to do with moving your jaw!

However, it is also vital that you find out what type of sleep apnea you have. There are two main types of sleep apnea: central sleep apnea versus obstructive sleep apnea.
